Chicopee Murder/Suicide Under Investigation

June 8, 2017 -Chicopee – On Thursday, June 8 at 12:58 p.m., the Chicopee Fire Department responded to a medical alert activation at 87 Lauzier Terrace in Chicopee. Upon arrival, they were met by John Danehy, 88, of Chicopee, outside the address. Mr. Danehy reported hearing a gunshot and a disturbance in the residence. While dealing with Mr. Danehy for his medical issues, emergency services personnel reported the activity to the Chicopee Police Department.

Upon notification, officers from the Chicopee Police Department responded to the scene and checked the inside of the residence.

At 1:35 p.m., the Chicopee Police Department notified the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni’s Office of two deaths at 87 Lauzier Terrace in Chicopee.

Found inside the residence were two deceased persons, a middle aged female and a juvenile male. The investigation, so far, reveals that the female, Mary Danehy, 50, of Chicopee, suffered numerous stab wounds, which appear to have caused her death. The deceased male, Joshua Guyette, 15, of Chicopee, appears to have died from a single gunshot wound; a firearm was recovered close to his body.

The forthcoming investigation conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Hampden Detective Unit and the Chicopee Police Department, has shown that a School Resource Officer of the Chicopee Police Department had dealt with Ms. Mary Danehy and Mr. Joshua Guyotte earlier in the day regarding Joshua’s problems at school. At the request of school administrators, Ms. Danehy removed her son from school due to behavior issues.

The investigation has so far revealed that Joshua Guyotte stabbed his mother numerous times and then shot himself. The investigation into this incident is still ongoing.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni expresses his sympathy to the families affected by this tragic incident.
