Drug Trafficking Investigation Yields Nine Firearms, Cocaine, Heroin, and $38,000; Three People Under Arrest

Three Arrested in Drug Trafficking Investigation; Cocaine, Heroin and Nine Firearms Seized

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced today the arrest of three individuals for their suspected involvement in operating a high level drug trafficking operation in the Springfield – Chicopee area. The investigation was carried out by the Hampden County Narcotics Taskforce and the Massachusetts State Police’s Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Team.

January 15, 2019 -Springfield- Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni announced today the arrest of three individuals for their suspected involvement in operating a high level drug trafficking operation in the Springfield – Chicopee area. The investigation was carried out by the Hampden County Narcotics Taskforce and the Massachusetts State Police’s Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Team. Assisting in the execution of the warrants was the Massachusetts State Police Gang and K9 Units, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the FBI Western Mass Gang Taskforce, the Springfield Police Department, and the Chicopee Police Department.  

Arrested last Friday, January 11, 2019; David Class, 41, of Chicopee, Johnathan Faust, 34, of Springfield, and Karla Santana, 30, of Springfield.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni stated, “I would like to thank the dedicated and professional members of law enforcement who participated in this investigation. Continuing to hold accountable those who wish to profit from addiction remains the number one priority of my administration.”

David Class, has been charged with Trafficking in Cocaine (over 200 grams), Trafficking in Heroin (36-100 grams), four counts of Improper Storage of a Large Capacity Firearm, four counts of Possession of a Large Capacity Weapon or Feeding Device, Possession of Ammunition without and FID Card, two counts Receiving Stolen Property, two counts of Firearms Violation with Three Prior Violent/Drug Crimes. 

In addition to the charges stemming from this investigation, he also has open charges relating to two pending cases in Hampden Superior Court, which are scheduled to go to trial later this spring. The charges pending include Trafficking in Cocaine (over 200 grams), Trafficking in Cocaine (36-100 grams), Possession with intent to Distribute, HeroinPossession with intent to Distribute, Cocaine, Possession with intent to Distribute (Oxycodone), He has been released from custody since posting $100,000 cash bail in each case.

Johnathan Faust, has been charged with: Trafficking in Cocaine (18-36 grams), two counts Possession of a Firearm without and FID Card, Possession of Ammunition without and FID Card, two counts Possession of a Firearm while in Commission of a Felon, Improper Storage of a Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute, Cocaine (subsequent offense, two counts of Firearms Violation with Two Prior Violent/Drug Crimes, Armed Career Criminal, Receiving Stolen Property (greater than $250),

Karla Santana, has been charged with: Possession with Intent to Distribute, Cocaine, Trafficking in Cocaine (18-36 grams), two counts Possession of a Firearm while in Commission of a Felony, Improper Storage of a Firearm, and Receiving Stolen Property (greater than $250).

After a lengthy investigation into the distribution and trafficking of cocaine in the Springfield/Chicopee area, members of the Massachusetts State Police, and officers assigned to the Hampden County Narcotics Taskforce executed a search warrant at the home of David Class, 13 Lauzier Terrace in Chicopee on January 11, 2019.

A search of the home yielded: 650 grams of cocaine with packaging, 87 grams of heroin with packaging, a loaded and unsecured Smith and Wesson handgun, an unsecured and a reported stolen out of Georgia Glock 17 handgun, a unsecured Glock 37 handgun, a reported stolen out of Texas .22 caliber rifle, an unsecured AR-15 style rifle, a unsecured and legally owned by the suspect’s girlfriend, .40 caliber Highpoint Rifle, a unsecured and legally owned by the suspect’s girlfriend,  9 mm Canik Firearm, and $36,000 in U.S. currency.

On the same day a search warrant was executed at the home Jonathan Faust and his girlfriend Karla Santana located 136 Melha Avenue in Springfield. The search yielded: 67 small baggies (weighing approximately 50 grams) containing cocaine, a loaded and unsecured Smith and Wesson .357 magnum revolver, a loaded, unsecured, and stolen out of New Hampshire Smith and Wesson .38 caliber revolver, $2,960 in U.S. Currency, and 33 Oxycodone pills.   

David Class will be arraigned in Chicopee District Court on Friday, January 18, 2019. He is currently being held without right to bail per an agreement between the prosecution and defense.

Jonathan Faust was arraigned in Springfield District Court on January 11,, 2019. He is currently being held without the right to bail pending a dangerousness hearing which was scheduled for January 15, 2019. He was found dangerous and is subject to home confinement with GPS monitoring, the Commonwealth asked to be held without right to bail.  

Karla Santana was arraigned in Springfield District Court on January 11th. Bail was set at $1,000 cash, the Commonwealth requested $10,000. Her next scheduled court date is February 11, 2019.
