Investigation Into Overnight Homicide in West Springfield

November 28, 2015 -Springfield, Mass- The West Springfield Police Department was called to the scene of an overnight stabbing on Chester Street in West Springfield. Upon arrival the West Springfield Police Department contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s Office.  Also on scene was an assigned Assistant District Attorney to supervise the investigation in what appears to be a fatal stabbing.

Upon arrival the West Springfield Police Department dispatched an ambulance to transport the victim to Baystate Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased.  The incident appears to be a domestic dispute that resulted in the fatal stabbing of Jennifer Best, 30, of West Springfield.

District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “I would like to thank the West Springfield Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit for their immediate response and quick action that has led to the arrest of a suspect in connection with this fatal incident.”

Arrested was suspect Christen Longley, 31, of West Springfield on the charges of Murder and Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Longley is expected to be arraigned in Springfield District Court on Monday morning.

Some details are being withheld as this is an on-going investigation. Please note that this in an isolated incident and there are no other current suspects being sought at this time.
