Springfield Man Passes Away After Medical Incident in Holyoke

May 25, 2019 -Holyoke- On Saturday, May 25, 2019 at approximately 2:35 a.m., members of the Holyoke Police Department arrested Mr. Daniel Allende, 29, of Springfield, on charges of Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Possession of a Class A Drug (Heroin).  

While in custody at approximately 7:21 a.m. Mr. Allende went into medical duress. Members of the Holyoke Police and Fire Departments along with EMS personnel immediately initiated CPR while also deploying an automated external defibrillator, AED, unit. Mr. Allende was transported to Holyoke Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The Holyoke Police Department contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office at approximately 7:50 a.m. to investigate the unattended death.

This is an on-going investigation being conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Both Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni and Holyoke Police Chief Manny Febo extend their condolences to Mr. Allende’s family at this difficult time.
