Sudden Unattended Infant Deaths Spike in 2017; Here are Tips on How to Prevent Them

The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s Office has recently responded to a rash of tragic infant deaths. As a result the Hampden District Attorney’s Office along with Baystate Children’s Hospital is issuing a warning along with guidance to new parents about proper sleeping arrangements for children under 12 months.

The leading cause of death among Massachusetts infants ages one month to 12 months is sudden unexpected infant death. Many of these deaths are associated with unsafe infant sleep positions and environments.
