Arrest made in July 18th Holyoke Homicide

On Monday, July 18, 2022 at approximately 2:11 a.m. the Holyoke Police Department received a 911 call reporting a shooting in the area of the 30-40 block of North Summer Street. When officers arrived on scene a male gunshot victim was located and treated by emergency medical personnel. He later succumbed to his injuries and passed away.   

The victim has been previously identified as Mr. Richard Roman-Santiago, 33, of Holyoke.

Detectives from both the Holyoke Police Department and Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office immediately began an exhaustive investigation into the death of Mr. Roman-Santiago.

On July 20, 2022,  detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Alex Marrero, 32, of Holyoke in connection with the homicide of Mr. Richard Roman-Santiago . At approximately 2:00 p.m. members of the Holyoke Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit, and Violent Apprehension Section located and arrested Alex Marrero.

Alex Marrero is scheduled to be arraigned today in Holyoke District Court.

This is an on-going investigation being conducted by the Holyoke Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
