Arrests made in Chicopee homicide investigation

On Monday, January 3, 2022 at approximately 10:30 p.m. Chicopee Police Officers responded to 190 East Street for a report of a single vehicle crash.  As officers arrived they located an adult male, who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound, the responding officer rendered  first aid until the victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

The victim has been previously identified as Mr. Kelvin Cruz-Lopez, 23, of Chicopee.

The homicide Investigation, led by detectives from the Chicopee Police Department, and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, quickly identified several suspects.

Several of the juveniles, are known to law enforcement because of a separate investigation by the Springfield Police Department.

On Tuesday, January 18, 2022, three arrest warrants for murder were sought and granted through Chicopee District Court.

Two of the suspects, Andres Torres, 17, of Chicopee, and Luis Torres, 17, of Chicopee, have been charged with murder. They were arraigned in Chicopee District Court on January 24, 2022, and are currently being held without right to bail, They are expected back in court on February 21, 2022.

The third suspect, Luis Vasquez, 17, of Springfield, was taken into custody on January 19, 2022.  He was charged with murder and arraigned on January 20, 2022 in Chicopee District Court. He is currently held without the right to bail, and his next scheduled court date is in February 17, 2022.   

This is an on-going investigation being conducted by the Chicopee Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
