District Attorney’s Office Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting in Springfield

June 13, 2026 – Springfield, Massachusetts – The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office in conjunction with the Springfield Police Department are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred at approximately 7 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, in the area of 159 Massachusetts Ave. in Springfield.

Preliminary investigation indicates members of the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit were conducting an investigation when shots were fired at the troopers. A Massachusetts State Police cruiser was struck by gunfire, and troopers discharged their service weapons in response.

One individual sustained injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening and was transported to Baystate Medical Center for treatment. A second individual is in custody. Investigators are actively working to locate an additional individual believed to have been involved in the incident.

No law enforcement personnel were injured. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
