Juan Rodriguez-Menier sentenced to 5 to 6 ½ years in prison after being found guilty on two counts related to a 2021 armed assault at the X in Springfield; awaits trial in separate firearm case

March 30, 2023 -Springfield- On Wednesday, March 29, 2023 Juan Rodriguez-Menier was sentenced by a Superior Court Judge to 5-6 1/2 years in state prison. The sentencing came after  a Hampden Superior Court Jury found him guilty on two counts of armed assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in serios bodily injury on February 16, 2023

The charges stemmed from a July 5, 2021 incident between the operator of a car and several operators of dirt bikes. The operator of one dirt bike, Juan Rodriguez-Menier, 25, of Holyoke, beat the operator of the car with his helmet. The operator of the car was severely injured and today still suffers from significant, life-altering adverse effects as a result of the beating.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “The investigation conducted by detectives from the Springfield Police Department lead to the arrest of the defendant. I am grateful and proud of our work to successfully prosecute this important case, led by Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Schlemmer. In addition, Victim Witness Advocate Lauren Musa did an extraordinary job working with the victim and his family during an incredibly trying time for them. Violence in our streets will not be tolerated or treated lightly.”

At the sentencing hearing the Commonwealth recommended a 12-15 year sentence. The defendant still has an open firearms case to which he was indicted by a Hampden Superior Court Grand Jury. His next court date in that case is scheduled for June 20, 2023

Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey Schlemmer represented the Commonwealth in this case.
