One Arrested, One Sought in Connection with Holyoke Sargeant Street Homicide

May 4, 2026 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni has announced that Delani Rodriguez, 21, of Holyoke, has been arrested and charged with murder, while Daniel Medina, 22, of Holyoke, remains at large and is being actively sought, in connection with the April 18 fatal shooting of Robert Abreu in Holyoke, Massachusetts.
At approximately 5:39 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, officers with the Holyoke Police Department responded to a report of shots fired with a victim injured in the area of 139 Sargeant St. Upon arrival, officers located Abreu, 31, of Holyoke, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The investigation, conducted by the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit, and the Holyoke Police Department, determined that the shooting followed a physical altercation involving multiple individuals.
Investigators allege that Abreu was approached and assaulted while seated in his vehicle, at which point a firearm was discharged, striking him.
Following the shooting, Rodriguez and Medina fled the area. Investigators later recovered a firearm and additional evidence during the execution of search warrants.
On April 22, 2026, members of the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force and the Hampden County SAFE Unit, both assigned to the District Attorney’s State Police Detective Unit, located Rodriguez in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder.
Rodriguez was arraigned on Thursday, April 23 in Holyoke District Court and is being held without the right to bail pending a May 22 pretrial conference.
Medina remains at large and is wanted for murder. Investigators have identified Medina as the individual who discharged the firearm during the altercation.
