Students Turn Out for 9th Annual Hoop Up Springfield Tournament and Job Fair
April 28, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni’s 9th Annual Hoop Up Springfield Basketball Tournament & Summer Job Fair brought together more than 150 attendees from across Hampden County for a day of athletic competition, career exploration, and community connection at American International College’s Butova Gymnasium on Monday, April 21.
The free event, open to students ages 11 to 18, delivered on its promise of excitement and opportunity. Youth basketball teams competed in a fast-paced 3×3 tournament, while others participated in a cheerleading clinic led by local professionals. The gym was filled with energy and encouragement as students showed off their skills both on and off the court.
A highlight of the day was the summer job fair, with more than a dozen local employers – Six Flags New England, Boy Scouts of America, Springfield Public Schools, The Big E/Hooplandia, Rob Alberti Event Services, Performance Food Group, A Caring Heart Nursing Services, The Saremi Center and AIC Admissions – offering real job opportunities to high school students. Held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., the fair connected teens with potential summer employment and helped many take their first steps toward professional development.
“This event is always one of the most inspiring days of the year,” said Gulluni. “We’re proud to provide a positive space for young people to compete, connect, and plan for their futures. Whether they walked away with a trophy or medal or a job lead, every student left with something meaningful.”
Springfield Police Superintendent Larry Akers also attended, sharing inspiring words with students to kick off the event.
Hoop Up Springfield was presented in collaboration with AIC’s Saremi Center for Career Development, whose support helped make the day a success. Organizers thanked the volunteers, employers, and AIC staff who helped make the event a safe and welcoming experience for all.
