Suspect under arrest in Holyoke homicide investigation

July 19, 2024 -Holyoke- Luis Rodriguez, 19, of Chicopee,  has been charged with, murder,  for his alleged role in a homicide on July 9, 2024 in Holyoke.  He was arrested on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, on motor-vehicle related offenses. He was arraigned on those charges on July 10, 2024 in Holyoke District Court and his bail was set at $1,000 for the motor vehicle charges. His bail was revoked in two other narcotics cases he is currently awaiting trial on; he has been held at the Hampden County House of Corrections since then on those charges.

Luis Rodriguez is expected to be arraigned on Monday, July, 22, 2024 in Holyoke District Court.   

On Wednesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:22 p.m., officers from the Holyoke Police Department responded to the area of the 50 block of West Street for a reported shot spotter activation. Responding  officers located an adult male gunshot victim who was transported to Baystate Medical Center along with two other people with non-life threatening injuries. The victim soon passed away from the injuries he received.  

The victim has been identified as Mr. Dexter Ortiz, 38, of Holyoke.

This in an ongoing investigation being conducted by members of the Holyoke Police Department,  Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
