August 20, 2026 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni has identified the victim involved in a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Springfield as Reinalyz Caraballo, 19, of Holyoke.

At approximately 4:15 a.m. on Sunday, August 16, Springfield Police officers responded to the 3100 block of Main Street for a ShotSpotter activation. As officers began the investigation in the area, an extra-duty officer at Baystate Medical Center notified them that an adult female gunshot victim had arrived at the hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The incident remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit, under the direction of Captain Trent Duda, in conjunction with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit.
