Victim of East Longmeadow crash identified

October 31, 2022 -Springfield- On Thursday, October 27, 2022, the East Longmeadow Police Department received a call regarding a serious accident on North Main Street near Speight Arden in East Longmeadow involving a motorized bike and a motor vehicle.

The operator of the bike,  Mr. Michael Wilson, 62, of Springfield, sustained serious injuries and was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he passed away.

The driver of the car which hit Mr. Wilson fled the scene.

On Friday, October 28, 2022, William Lowe, 27, of Agawam, turned himself in at the East Longmeadow Police Department citing the fatal crash the previous day.

He has been charged with motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in personal injury or death, and operation of a motor vehicle with a suspended license. At his arraignment on Monday morning, bail was set at $5,000, (the Commonwealth asked or $10,000), with the condition he not operate a motor vehicle.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the East Longmeadow Police Department,  Hampden County State Police Detective Unit, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit.
