Arrest Made in Westfield Homicide

January 14, 2019 -Westfield- On Sunday, January 13, 2019 officers from the Westfield Police Department responded to  92 White Street on a report of a male caller indicating he was seriously injured.

Both the Westfield Police and Fire Departments responded to the apartment. Upon arrival officers found a young women deceased from apparent stab wounds. The male caller was also found in the apartment with what appeared to be self-inflicted lacerations; he was transported to Noble Hospital for treatment.

The victim has been identified as Ms. Alexis Avery, 20, of Westfield.

Arrested and charged with murder in connection with this case is Blake Scanlon, 23, of Westfield.

The homicide investigation is currently being conducted by the Westfield Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.

This is an open and active investigation.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni offers his sympathies to Ms. Avery’s family during this difficult time.

Blake Scanlon is expected to be arraigned this afternoon in Westfield District Court.
