Victor Oquendo Convicted for First Degree Murder in 2021 Homicide

April 29, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni announced the conviction and sentencing of Victor Oquendo, 28, of Belchertown, Massachusetts. A Hampden County jury found Oquendo guilty of first degree murder in the death of Chad Alexander. He was found not guilty for the murder of Charleen Figueroa.

On April 16, 2025, the Court sentenced him to life without the possibility of parole on the murder conviction; six to eight years in state prison for armed assault with intent to murder; three to five years in state prison for illegal possession of a firearm; two and one half years in jail for illegal possession of a loaded firearm. All charges run concurrent with the life sentence.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “The sentencing of Victor Oquendo brings a measure of justice in a case that has caused immense pain and loss. The defendant’s actions were deliberate and devastating. A jury has found him guilty of murder in the first degree, and he has now been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. While no sentence can undo the harm done, we hope this outcome brings some sense of closure and peace to the involved families and loved ones. I want to thank the Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, Assistant District Attorney Paul Caccaviello, and the other members of my office’s staff who worked so hard to see this case to this conclusion.”

Around 3:30 a.m. on November 28, 2021, Springfield Police Officers responded to the 0-100 block of West Alvord Street for a ShotSpotter Activation.
