Brian Gonzalez arrested in connection with Holyoke homicide

June 25, 2024 -Holyoke- On the morning of June 24, 2024, Brian Gozalez, 27, of Holyoke was arrested by members of the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s SAFE Task Force, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, and members of the Holyoke Police Department. He was arrested for his alleged role in the murder of David Rivera on June 1, 2024.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 2:00 a.m., officers from the Holyoke Police Department responded to the area of the 400 block of High Street for a reported shooting which occurred during an altercation. Responding  officers located an adult male gunshot victim who was transported to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, which he continues to recover from.   

Later, officers with the Holyoke Police Department located a second victim in a  vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road in the area of the 300 High Street. The operator of the vehicle was suffering from  an apparent gunshot wound and was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been previously identified as Mr. David Rivera, 31, of Springfield.

The subsequent homicide investigation developed probable cause leading to an arrest warrant being granted out of Holyoke District Court for Brian Gonzalez and charging him with murder.

He was arraigned in Holyoke District Court on June 24, 2024 and is currently held without the right to bail. His next scheduled court date is on July 18, 2024

This in an ongoing investigation being conducted by members of the Holyoke Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
