Jose Alvarado Held Without the Right to Bail Following Dangerousness Hearing

January 13, 2026 – Westfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni announced that Jose Alvarado, 48, of Huntington, has been ordered held without the right to bail following a dangerousness hearing held in Westfield District Court on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2026.

A District Court judge ordered that Alvarado be held without right to bail pursuant to Massachusetts General Law 276 Section 58A as a danger.

Alvarado is charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, and mayhem.

It is alleged that on Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, at approximately 11:20 a.m., Alvarado walked into a barbershop on Elm Street in Westfield, and stabbed an individual numerous times, resulting in a significant amount of blood loss. Alvarado then exited the building and drove away in his vehicle.

After a quick and skillful investigation by the Massachusetts State Police, Alvarado was identified as the suspect. MSP Troopers then went to his last known address in Huntington, where he was found and taken into custody.

The victim, who knew Alvarado, ultimately survived.

Alvarado is due back in court on Feb. 6, 2026, for a pre-trial hearing. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
