Judge Modifies Detention Order for Lamar Cook, Sets Bail on Trafficking Charge at $75,000
November 13, 2025 – Springfield, MA – Following a review of the defendant’s prior 58A detention order, a Hampden Superior Court judge has modified the detention status of Lamar Cook, 45, of Springfield, setting cash bail at $75,000 and ordering that he forfeit his passport.
After the prosecution moved for detention per the Dangerousness statute, Cook was ordered held without the right to bail on October 31, 2025. A district court judge allowed the prosecution’s motion and found him to be a danger to the community, citing the significant quantity of narcotics recovered and the scope of his alleged conduct.
Subsequent to this initial hearing, the defense filed a motion to review that detention order under Section 58A, which was heard in Hampden Superior Court on Friday, November 7, 2025. After taking the matter under advisement, a Superior Court judge issued a decision on November 12, 2025, finding that while Cook remains a danger, new conditions could be imposed to ensure the safety of the community. Accordingly, the court set bail at $75,000 and ordered Cook to surrender his passport. In the written decision, the judge noted there was “strong evidence of sophisticated drug operations; defendant alleged to have prior drug pickups; amount of drugs show danger but defendant has no record and conditions will assure appearance and safety.”
In connection with the firearm case, the judge reduced Cook’s bail from $25,000 to $10,000 cash.
Cook was originally arrested on October 28, 2025, as part of an extensive investigation led by the Massachusetts State Police Commonwealth Interstate Narcotics Reduction Enforcement Team (CINRET West), the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and other partner agencies.
As previously reported, the investigation resulted in the seizure of multiple parcels containing a combined total of approximately 21 kilograms of suspected cocaine, including approximately 8 kilograms intercepted during a controlled delivery operation at 436 Dwight St., the Springfield State Office Building, where Cook was employed.
Cook is charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, 200 Grams or More, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. He remains presumed innocent until proven guilty.
This investigation remains ongoing and active.
