Luis Kidanny Colon Held On Pre-Trial Detention Following 58A Dangerousness Hearing
May 29, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Luis Kidanny-Colon, 38, of Springfield, Massachusetts was found to be a dangerous person after a 58A hearing in Hampden Superior Court. Colon will be held under pre-trial detention for 180 days.
On December 14, 2024 at approximately 9:40 p.m., Springfield Police Officers were dispatched to Mercy Medical Center for a report of an assault. Upon arrival, officers were met with a female victim who had a visible laceration to her forehead and was allegedly assaulted by her ex-boyfriend. Springfield Special Victims Unit Detectives took pictures and were able to file a report.
Three days later, on December 17, 2024 at approximately 4:20 p.m., Springfield Police Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Stafford Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located the aforementioned victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to Baystate Medical Center where she underwent emergency surgery. While on scene, detectives were able to identify the shooter as Luis Kidanny Colon. An arrest warrant was soon after issued for Mr. Colon.
On December 18, 2024 at approximately 12:05 p.m., members of the Springfield Police Department’s Firearms Investigation Unit, Emergency Services Unit, Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, and United States Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force were briefed on the arrest warrants, physical description and photo of Mr. Colon. Detectives responded to the 200 block of Bay Street where they were able to identify Mr. Colon. Detectives were able to maintain surveillance on Mr. Colon as he entered and rode a PVTA Bus to Union Station in Springfield. Once Mr. Colon exited the bus, members of the Emergency Services Unit moved in and was able to apprehend Mr. Colon for his outstanding warrants.
Upon arrest, detectives were able to locate a loaded 40mm Smith and Wesson handgun with one live round in the chamber and approximately six rounds in the magazine, 33 bags of heroin stamped “Chanel” inside a sandwich bag, and 3 grey medium sized caps containing cocaine inside a sandwich bag. Mr. Colon did not possess a valid License To Carry. Mr. Colon is presumed innocent of all allegations until proven guilty.
Luis Kidanny Colon is currently facing charges of: (2) counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, (1) count of armed burglary, (1) count of larceny under $1,200, (1) count of malicious injury to property, (1) count of assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, (1) count of assault with the intent to murder, (1) count of assault and battery with serious bodily injury, (1) count of mayhem, (1) count of armed with a firearm, (1) count of unlawful possession of a firearm, (1) count of carrying a large-capacity rifle or shotgun on a public way, (2) counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and (1) count of stalking.
Mr. Colon’s next date in court is scheduled for June 18, 2025 in Hampden Superior Court.
