Suspect Held Without Right to Bail in Fatal Chicopee Shooting Thursday Evening
June 2, 2025 – Chicopee, Massachusetts – The Hampden District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit, Assistant District Attorneys assigned to its Murder Unit, and the Chicopee Police Department are investigating a shooting that occurred Thursday night.
On Thursday, May 29, 2025, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Chicopee Police Department contacted the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office regarding a shooting that had occurred on 16 Charbonneau Terrace in the city of Chicopee. Upon arrival, responding officers located an injured male with penetrating wounds to his body. Immediate life-saving measures were rendered, and the victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
The victim has been identified as Tre Kingsbury, 21, of West Springfield, Massachusetts.
While on scene, detectives identified an individual involved with the shooting. The suspect has been identified as Jayshawn Kempton, 17, of Chicopee, Massachusetts. On Friday May 30, 2025, Kempton was arraigned in Chicopee District Court and charged with murder and illegal possession of a firearm. Kempton has been held without the right to bail and his next appearance in court will be June 26, 2025 for pre-trial conference.
This remains an ongoing investigation conducted by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office State Police Detective Unit in conjunction with the Chicopee Police Department.
