Tyreese Amaro Sentenced to 20 Years to Life for 2024 Murder of Anthony Goss

August 12, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni announced that Tyreese Amaro, 26 , of East Longmeadow, pleaded guilty to Second Degree Murder in connection with the February 26, 2024, shooting death of Anthony Goss, 23, of Westfield, outside the El Fogon Restaurant on Bay Street in Springfield.

On Monday, August 4, 2025, Amaro entered the plea as part of an agreed sentence of 20 years to life in state prison. He also pleaded guilty to one count of Carrying an Illegal Firearm, for which he received a concurrent sentence of three years to three years and one day. Judge Jane Mulqueen accepted the plea.

On February 26, 2024, Springfield Police responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting in the parking lot of El Fogon Restaurant. Officers arrived to find Goss in the driver’s seat of a black Audi, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators determined that Amaro arrived at the restaurant in a gray Nissan Altima, met with the victim in his vehicle for approximately 40 minutes, and then fatally shot him before fleeing in his own vehicle. Surveillance video, ballistic evidence, and fingerprint analysis linked Amaro to the crime. Amaro later surrendered to police, who recovered three firearms from his possession, including the .40 caliber Sig Sauer pistol used in the murder.

A review of the victim’s cell phone suggested the meeting was arranged for the sale of a firearm. U.S. currency consistent with the discussed sale amount was found among the victim’s belongings.

“This was a cold-blooded act of violence that took a life, devastated a family, and endangered our community,” said Gulluni. “We will continue to pursue justice for victims and hold those who commit such acts accountable. I thank the Springfield Police Department for their thorough investigation and work in securing this conviction.”

The Commonwealth was represented by Assistant District Attorney Matthew Green, Assistant District Attorney Hilary Sullivan, Assistant District Attorney David Sheppard-Brick, and Victim Witness Advocate Lauren Counter.
