Wilfredo DeJesus Sentenced to Prison for Shooting His Son

October 27, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – Wilfredo DeJesus, 49, of Holyoke, has been convicted and sentenced in Hampden Superior Court in Springfield for a 2022 shooting that left his son seriously injured.

On Sept. 30, 2025, DeJesus was convicted of Assault to Kill, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Without a Firearms Identification (FID) Card, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card. He was also convicted as a subsequent offender on the latter two firearm-related charges.

DeJesus was sentenced on Oct. 3, 2025, to 8–10 years in state prison on the Assault to Kill, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm Without FID, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Without FID convictions, and 12–15 years on the Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony charge.

The charges stem from a violent incident on January 8, 2022, when DeJesus shot his adult son, Ethan DeJesus, inside their Holyoke residence following an argument. Ethan, who was home from college at the time, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen that required multiple surgeries and extensive hospitalization. DeJesus fled the scene and was located more than a year later in Florida, where he was apprehended and extradited back to Massachusetts.

“This was a disturbing act of violence within a family home that left a young man with life-altering injuries,” said Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni. “I commend the bravery of the victim, the thorough work of our investigators and prosecutors, and the outcome that holds this defendant accountable for his actions.”

The case was investigated by the Holyoke Police Department and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s State Police Detective Unit.

The Commonwealth was represented by Assistant District Attorney Jamie Spinella and Victim Witness Advocate Damaris Ramirez.
