Youth Advisory Board Kicks Off Year with Student Questions for DA Gulluni, Welcomes Largest Class Yet

October 6, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – When Hampden County students ages 14 to 18 gathered for the first Youth Advisory Board (YAB) orientation of the year, one of their first questions for District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni was simple: “What’s your favorite part of your job?”

His answer? Working with them.

DA Gulluni spent over an hour with the group on Oct. 1, which included 35 new members and 12 student leaders, marking the official kickoff to the 2025–2026 program year. He spoke about the role of the DA’s Office, memorable cases, and offered advice for students considering careers in law and public service. The Q&A covered topics ranging from cases he will never forget to the office’s work on the Lisa Ziegert case.

“These young people inspire me every year with their insight, curiosity, and genuine commitment to helping others,” said Gulluni. “The Youth Advisory Board gives them a seat at the table in conversations about public safety and prevention, and I am grateful for their voices and partnership.”

This year’s Youth Advisory Board is the largest in its history, with 71 students representing schools across Hampden County.

After the Q&A, Director and Deputy Director of the DA’s Community Safety and Outreach Unit, Tony Simmons and Gina Anselmo, outlined expectations for members, described the projects they will take on during the school year, and emphasized the real-world impact the students can have in their schools and communities.

The evening concluded with reflections from the 12 returning YAB leaders, several of whom have participated in the program for multiple years. Leaders encouraged new members to embrace the program fully, build strong connections, and recognize that their work with the DA’s Office can help shape real change.

The leadership team for 2025–2026 includes:

  • Branden Atimbo, Pope Francis Preparatory School
  • Daniel Casey, West Springfield High School
  • Ryan Cooley, Wilbraham & Monson Academy
  • Mason Daly, Longmeadow High School
  • Nicholas Falvo, Pope Francis Preparatory School
  • Lily Gurung, East Longmeadow High School
  • Mishalynn Guirand, Springfield International Charter School
  • Laila Hosnander, Minnechaug Regional High School
  • Zahraa Karim, Chicopee Comprehensive High School
  • Ainsley Petell, White Oak School
  • Rachel Roblinski, Pathfinder Regional Vocational Technical High School
  • Devin Soucy, Agawam High School

Throughout the year, YAB members will examine issues impacting young people in their schools and communities, collaborate on solutions, and raise awareness. Their work will culminate in a youth-led spring conference, where students present their findings and recommendations to educators, law enforcement, and community partners.

The Youth Advisory Board is a cornerstone of the Hampden DA’s commitment to youth engagement, leadership development, and proactive community partnerships.
