Holyoke Man Arrested in Holyoke Homicide Investigation

August 9, 2019 -Holyoke- On Thursday, August 8, 2019 at approximately 5:00 p.m. members of the U.S. Marshal Service and the Philadelphia Police Detectives arrested Dennis Guzman, 19, of Holyoke in North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on a charge of being a fugitive from justice.  

Guzman is the subject of an arrest warrant out of Holyoke District Court for his alleged role in the murder of Andrew Musgrave, 31, of Amherst.

Since the issuance of the arrest warrant charging Guzman with: murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and unlawful possession of a firearm, he has been the subject of a search by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Massachusetts Special Tactical Operations Team.  

He is currently being held in jail in Philadelphia as he waits a rendition hearing, which is not expected to occur for several days.   

On Saturday, August 3, 2019 at approximately 11:39 p.m. members of the Holyoke Police Department responded to the area Appleton, High, and Maple Streets when they heard, what they thought to be, gunshots coming from this vicinity while on patrol. A 9-1-1 call was soon received for a reported gunshot victim at 285 Maple Street.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim outside of 285 Maple Street, who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. He was later identified as Andrew Musgrave, 31, of Amherst. He was rushed to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

This investigation remains active and on-going by members Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
