Investigation into Three Car Crash in Ludlow Continues

February 20, 2019 -Ludlow- On Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at approximately 2:53 p.m., the Ludlow Police and Fire Departments responded to a three car crash on Shawinigan Drive in the vicinity of Russell Street in the Town of Ludlow.  Due to the severity of the crash the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office was called to the scene.

The initial investigation shows that a 2003 Dodge Durango, was traveling eastbound on Shawinigan Drive in Ludlow.  The Durango was occupied by a male driver and four children.  It appears the Durango lost control while traveling in the area of Russell Street, and crossed over into the westbound side of Shawinigan Drive and collided with a Ford tanker truck.  The Durango continued eastbound, out of control, for a significant distance and collided with a Dodge Caravan.

All four children who were traveling in the Durango were transported to Baystate Medical Center.

Tragically, two of the children were pronounced deceased. They have been identified as Jadyn Lamas, 9, and Natalya Lamas, 7, of Ludlow. The driver of the vehicle was the father of the four children.

The driver of the tanker truck was uninjured. Both the driver and passenger in the Caravan were taken to Baystate Medical Center with series injuries.

The investigation is currently being conducted by the Ludlow Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Also aiding in the investigation are the Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction, and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Sections.

This is an open and active investigation.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni offers his sympathies to Lamas family during this tragic and difficult time.
