One Arrested in Heroin Distribution Investigation

-Springfield- On April 24, 2019 members of Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni’s Hampden County Narcotics Taskforce arrested: John Rivera, 26, for his alleged involvement in the sale and trafficking of heroin in the City of Springfield.

After a lengthy investigation into the sale and trafficking of heroin in the City of Springfield, members of the Hampden County Narcotics Task Force initiated an investigation into the sale of heroin out of 26 Benton Street in Springfield. 

As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was applied for and granted for 26 Benton Street, 1R.  On Wednesday April 24, 2019 members of the Taskforce along with the Springfield Narcotics Unit executed the warrant. John Rivera was located in the apartment and secured without issue.

A subsequent search of the residence yielded 257 bags of heroin, 19 grams of cocaine (suspected), 8 ½ boxes of suboxone strips, $995, and an unloaded .25 caliber handgun with a magazine containing seven rounds.

John Rivera has been charged with: Possession of a Class A Drug (heroin) with Intent to Distribute, Trafficking Cocaine 18-36 grams, Possession of a Firearm Without a Permit, Possession of Ammunition Without an FID Card, and Illegal Possession of Class B Drug (suboxone).

John Rivera was arraigned yesterday in Springfield District Court. He is currently being held on $5,000 cash bail, the Commonwealth requested $25,000. His next scheduled court date is on May 23, 2019.
