April 4, 2024 -Springfield- On Wednesday, April 3, 2024at 10:48 a.m. officers from the West Springfield Police Department respond to the 500 block of Riverdale Road for a report of a disturbance.

On scene, responding officers discovered a female in a parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound and rushed her to Baystate Medical Center where she succumbed to her injuries and passed away. The victim has been identified as Ms. Angela Mercado, 43, of Springfield.

Arrested in connection with this incident and charged with murder was Roman Holguin, 37, of Springfield. He was arraigned on April 4, 2024 in Springfield District Court and is currently being held without the right to bail. His next scheduled court date is on May  , 2024.

This in an ongoing investigation being conducted by members of the West Springfield Police Department, Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
