Victim identified in Lionel Benoit Road homicide

 

 

 

 

September 28, 2023 -Springfield- On Sunday, September 24, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. members of the Springfield Police Department responded to an apartment in the 100 block of Lionel Benoit Road for a report of a gunshot victim.

Officers discovered Javian Lopez, 17, of Springfield, suffering from a gunshot along with three suspects who remained on scene. Mr. Lopez was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he later passed away to due his injuries.

Xavier Rivera, 20, of Ware and  Luis Reyes-Santiago, 18, of Springfield were arrested on the following charges: Murder, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Building, Possession of Ammunition without an FID Card, and Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon. Due to the third suspect’s age, her name and specific charges can not be provided.

Both defendants have been arraigned in Springfield District Court and are held without the right to bail. Their next scheduled court date is on October 4, 2023.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni extends his sympathies to Mr. Lopez’s family.

This incident remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Department and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
