Victim in Home Street Homicide Identified
December 5, 2025 – Springfield, Massachusetts – On Sunday, November 30, 2025, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Springfield Police Officers responded to the 0–100 block of Home Street for a report of a gunshot victim. An adult male victim was located inside an apartment suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he later passed away from his injuries.
The victim has been identified as Shain West, 27, of Springfield.
The Springfield Police Department’s Homicide Unit, under the direction of Captain Trent Duda, immediately began an investigation in collaboration with the Hampden District Attorney’s Murder Unit. Through their investigation, officers identified Daevon Shular, 21, of Seguin, Texas, as a suspect.
Shular was arrested on Monday, Dec. 1, at approximately 10:15 a.m. at Baystate Medical Center. He had been privately transported to the hospital Sunday night for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Shular has been charged with murder, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, carrying a firearm without a license, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building, and attempt to commit a crime. He is held without the right to bail. Shular is presumed innocent of all allegations until proven guilty.
This matter remains under investigation by the Springfield Police Homicide Unit and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office Murder Unit.
