West Springfield homicide victim identified

October 24, 2022 -Springfield- On Thursday, October 20, 2022, members of Hampden County State Police Detective Unit along with the West Springfield Police Department  became aware of a possible homicide victim in West Springfield after officers with Springfield Police Department received information and details of a possible murder in West Springfield.

Members of the Hampden County State Police Detective Unit and West Springfield Police Department  immediately partnered with the Springfield Police Department to initiate a homicide investigation. 

Detectives quickly established the suspects identity and through their investigation established probable cause that he was responsible for the homicide.

Jose Hernandez, 30, of West Springfield was taken into custody and brought to the West Springfield Police Department were he was booked and charged with murder.

On the same day, Investigators obtained a search warrant for the victim’s residence on Riverdale Street in West Springfield . Upon executing the search warrant, detectives discovered the victim’s body.

The victim has been identified as Ms. Amber Carpenter, 39, of West Springfield.

Jose Hernandez was arraigned on Friday in Springfield District Court. He is being held without the right to bail and his scheduled to be back in court on November 18, 2022.   

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Hampden County State Police Detective Unit, the West Springfield Police Department and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
