Charges Cannot be Brought in Island Pond Road Assault Investigation

February 2, 2017 -Springfield MA- Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni released today the results of his office’s review of an April 8, 2015 assault that occurred on Island Pond Road in Springfield, which included the involvement of off-duty Springfield Police officers.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “The resulting injuries these four men sustained as a result of this assault are real and were unprovoked. Unfortunately, with the evidence that has been received and reviewed by my office, I cannot in good faith bring charges against anyone who may have been involved.” District Attorney Gulluni went on to say, “I am frustrated by this result, but I am bound by the evidence and my ethical obligations to base prosecutions on a probable cause standard. I sincerely hope that there will be some form of restitution and redress in other processes yet to play out.”
