District Attorney Announces Second Death and Victims’ Identities from Sunday Morning Shooting

June 9, 2017 -Springfield, Mass- The Hampden District Attorney’s Office is announcing that a second death has occurred from the Sunday, June 4, early morning shooting incident at the Kick Back Lounge on State Street in Springfield.

On June 8, at approximately noon, Mr. Chauncy Marshall, age 31, of Springfield, Massachusetts, died as a result of the injuries he suffered on Sunday morning at the Kick Back Lounge. Mr. Marshall’s death follows the death of Mr. Warren Payne, Jr., age 27, of Springfield, Massachusetts, who perished shortly after being struck by gunfire during the same incident.

At this juncture, there has not been an arrest made in connection with this event. The Major Crimes Unit of the Springfield Police Department continues to diligently investigate this case in partnership with the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni stated, “My thoughts and sympathy are with Mr. Marshall’s and Mr. Payne’s families and friends at this time, along with the others affected by this violent incident.” District Attorney Gulluni went on to say, “The Major Crimes Unit of the Springfield Police Department, under the leadership of Captain Trent Duda, along with members of my Office’s Murder Unit, will continue to pursue every lead and vet every detail until someone is brought to justice. I implore anyone who has any information to speak with police.”
