Suspect under arrest in fatal Holyoke accident

June 6, 2022 -Holyoke- On Sunday, June 5, 2022 at approximately 7:30 p.m. the Holyoke Police Department responded to the vicinity of Route 5 and Belvedere Street for a motor vehicle accident. 

The suspect’s vehicle appears to have collided with the victim’s vehicle head on when the suspect’s vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic.  

The victim’s vehicle was occupied by three people, including the driver. All three were taken from the scene by ambulance to Holyoke Hospital.

Tragically, the driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries after arriving at the hospital. He has been identified as Mr. Victor Santiago, 40, of Springfield.

Arrested in connection with the crash was Jedd Flores, 25, of West Springfield. He has been charged with: motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, and operating under the influence. He was arraigned today in Holyoke District Court and held on $25,000 cash bail, with the conditions of no driving, and to not leave the Commonwealth. His next court appearance is scheduled for June 21, 2022.

This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Holyoke Police Department, The Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit.
