Two suspects under arrest in Chicopee homicide investigation

June 13, 2022 -Chicopee- On Monday, May 30, 2022 at approximately 5:04 p.m., the Chicopee Police Department responded to the 1200 block of Grattan Street for a report of shots fired.  On scene, responding officers located an adult male who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The victim has been previously identified as Mr. Luis Lebron Alvelo, 23, of Chicopee.

The Chicopee Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, quickly developed intelligence identifying two suspects in the case.

On June 8, 2022, investigators were able to develop probable cause on the first suspect, and were able to locate and arrest Thania Rosado, 31, of Springfield, MA on a charge of murder. 

Following the arrest of Rosado, detectives continued their investigation. On June 10, 2022, investigators were able to develop a location on the second suspect, Jose Amaro, 38, of Springfield. He was arrested at a residence on Loring Street in Springfield.  After securing a search warrant, officers conducted a search of the residence and discovered; two handguns, ammunition with high capacity feeding devices, and narcotics packing materials. Participating in the arrest were: the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, Chicopee Police Department, Springfield Police Department, and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department.  

Both suspects were booked at the Chicopee Police Department following their arrests. Thania Rosado is currently held without the right to bail, and hernext scheduled court date is on June 24, 2022.  Jose Amaro is currently in custody and is expected to be arraigned on Monday, June 13, 2022 in Chicopee District Court. Both are charged with murder.  

This is an on-going investigation being conducted by the Chicopee Police Department, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Murder Unit.
