Three suspects indicted in 2021 homicide of Kamari Lyles

February 11, 2022 -Springfield-  Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni announced today the indictments of Brialee Garcia, 20, of Springfield, Joel Rodriguez, 23, of Springfield, and Christopher Hernandez, 28, of Chicopee. All three have been indicted on first degree murder, in the shooting death of Mr. Kamari Lyles, 22, of Springfield. 

On May 1, 2021 at approximately 11:50 p.m., the Springfield Police Department responded to a shot spotter activation in the vicinity of Leete Street. When officers arrived they discovered Mr. Lyles in a parked car suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds, he was deceased at the scene. They also rendered aid to another individual who was struck by gunfire who was transported to Baystate Medical Center and survived.      

During the course of the investigation, arrests warrants were issued. When officers arrived at 53 West Street to take the suspects into custody, they discovered 10 firearms, 27 high capacity magazines, including a 50 round drum magazine and several 30 round magazines, as well as hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

All three suspects are currently being held without the right to bail and are awaiting arraignment in Superior Court.
