Eric Reyes arraigned in fatal State Street crash

November 5, 2021 -Springfield- On November 3, 2021, at approximately 12:30 p.m. the Springfield Police Department responded to the 600 block of State Street for a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian. It appears, a vehicle operated by Eric Reyes, 26, of Springfield hit a pedestrian on State Street as the pedestrian was crossing.

Eric Reyes was arraigned yesterday in Springfield District Court on charges of: motor vehicle homicide by negligence , and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. His bail was set at $4,000 with the following conditions: surrender his passport and drivers permit, obey all laws, notify probation of change of address, do not leave the Commonwealth, report to probation twice a week via phone, no drugs or alcohol, including marijuana with random screens. His next scheduled court appearance is onNovember 26, 2021

The pedestrian and victim of the accident has been Identified as Mr. Michael Diaz Vargas, 40, of Springfield.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni offers his sympathies to Mr. Vargas’s family.    

The accident is still under investigation by the Springfield Police Department’s Traffic Bureau and the Hampden District Attorney’s Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit
