Johnny Acevedo arrested by SAFE Unit, currently held on dangerousness

October 28, 2021 -Springfield- On Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at approximately 4:15 p.m.Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni’s SAFE Unit, along with Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit, arrested Jonathan Acevedo, AKA “Plainfield Johnny”, on charges of: possession of a firearm, and carrying a loaded firearm, both without a license to carry, possession of high capacity magazine, and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni stated, “ Thank you to both the members of my SAFE Unit and the Massachusetts State Police Gang Unit for their professionalism in apprehending a very dangerousness individual, who is a known prolific offender in Springfield. This arrest will have a positive impact on public safety and continue our sustained effort in combating street level violent crime.”  

Recently, officers developed information that Acevedo was engaged in street level gang activity, at the time of his arrest, a Taurus .45 caliber firearm equipped with a laser was seized.

Acevedo, who was out on bail at the time of his arrest on heroin and cocaine trafficking charges, is an alleged notorious, violent and prolific offender in the Springfield area. He is a known affiliate of the Plainfield and Sycamore Street Gangs, and is a known to law enforcement as a drug trafficker with multiple open narcotic trafficking and firearms charges.

Jonathan Acevedo was arraigned in Springfield District Court on 10/20/2021. He is currently being held without the right to bail on dangerousness. He is scheduled to be back in court on 11/16/2021.

Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni formed and announced the SAFE Unit earlier this year after it dismantled the notorious Knox Street Posse. The unit’s focus is on known individuals who are prolific drivers of street level violent crime and gang activity.
